After the body and regulation, the mind eventually came back into play.
I have read many books.
I listened to podcasts.
Watched lectures.
There are countless concepts:
Thoughts shape reality.
Affirmations change patterns.
Morning routines determine success.
Beliefs determine life.
And some of it really touched me.
When thoughts help – and when they don't
Journaling has helped me to sort things out.
Writing down thoughts instead of letting them circulate in your head.
To make anger visible.
To name fears.
That can provide relief.
But I also noticed:
Mental work only functions if the nervous system is reasonably stable.
In a state of alarm, a nice sentence is of no help.
Self-help: between inspiration and overwhelm
I've had phases where I read a lot of self-help books.
Some have opened up new perspectives.
Some were repeated.
Some created pressure.
"You just have to think positively."
"You just need to change your mindset."
It's not that simple.
Mental work can be helpful.
But it does not replace regulation.
And no therapy.
What remains
What has remained for me is:
- regular writing
- questioning one's own narratives
- the willingness to look at myself honestly
Not to optimize myself.
But to understand me better.
For me, mental clarity today does not come from discipline.
But through stability.
